Mindset Reset: How TYM2THRIVE Began

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

On July 1, 2019 Kevette Minor Kane returned to the financial services industry after taking an opportunity to embark on a personal mission. It would only be a few months until she was called back into her purpose. Here's how and why.....

I'm no rookie when it comes to understanding how money works. I hold a degree in Finance and experience in both banking and insurance. Although I decided to step away from the field for a few years, to take on a noble mission away from home, my drive and determination for wealth education and creating success in business had never diminished. In that time away there were some valuable lessons learned that would position me to develop a transformational program teaching people about how to stand in their personal power and for self-sufficiency and financial freedom.

There were three major tragedies including survival of one of the greatest hurricanes to hit the Caribbean, the loss of my father in death, and the loss of my marriage to divorce. The sadness of losing my father in death was met with a special sting when I found out that he, as a business owner himself, had no Last Will & Testament to designate the affairs of his estate and no Life Insurance to cover the cost of handling these final affairs. I was disappointed that he had not taken the opportunity years earlier to ensure that this responsibility had been cared for properly.

To make things worse, I was in no position when I returned home to even contribute toward his funeral services or final affairs expenses because, in those few years that I had been gone, the trauma I experienced left me without a financial foundation of my own to stand upon. I was so ashamed and embarrassed but I was determined to do everything in my power to give honor to my father in handling his final affairs.

There were several life-changing incidents that lead to this outcome. Some I was in control of and others I was not. To sum it all up, I was a survivor. I managed to escape. Now I had a chance to start over with the wisdom and insight of lessons learned from significant life experiences and the realization that, if I had been looking to be rescued, no one was coming.

It was painful though. Wanting to bury my father with dignity yet having no means to ensure that outcome. Thankfully, family and friends contributed to make sure my dad was respectfully remembered and his service as a military veteran provided an honorable burial. If you've never been in this position then good for you. I can't say it often enough or loud enough..."Go Fund Me is not a final expense plan" (read the article on this blog). While all too often in the African-American community burial by donation is the tragic outcome. My advice and admonishment is to do all that you can to prevent this circumstance from being your own experience. Be wise and learn from the mistakes of others, learn from my mistake. Plan ahead, protect yourself and prepare on behalf of your family.

Given my impactful experiences, I'm currently on a mission to educate and empower as many people as I can about how to financially protect themselves, their families, and their businesses. I don't want anyone else I know or meet to have to go through this if I can have anything to do with preventing it.

My mission is to teach those in my community, especially the African-American community, including entrepreneurs and business owners, with a special focus on women, how to get out of debt, retire tax-free, and create wealth so that they can have confidence in their financial future and focus on growing their business and contributing back to our community for the benefit of society as a whole.

My vision is to encourage as many people as I can reach to accomplish their goals by reaching for more than they think they deserve in order to elevate the self worth and gratitude experienced by women around the globe. I am just one woman but I believe that one woman can make a difference. So here I am and you're invited to join me on this journey to self-sufficiency as we transform to improve our collective lives and legacy.
